The Fridley station will be ready when Northstar service starts late this year. The station is being constructed with a $9.9 million grant from the Counties Transit Improvement Board.

The station was included in Northstar’s original plans, but had been deferred because of cost considerations. The grant, combined with investments from the Anoka County Regional Rail Authority and the City of Fridley, completes the funding needed. The grant was made possible by the new ¼-percent metro sales tax.

Construction of a pedestrian tunnel under the BNSF train tracks and acquisition of land for the park-and-ride lots have been completed. Construction of the station currently is underway.
